Risk Specialist
- Hybrid
- Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands
Job description
Your role
As Risk Specialist, you help Fastned strengthen its risk and control framework while enabling the business to grow responsibly and at speed. You combine a structured, analytical approach with pragmatism: making risk management practical, accessible, and proportionate to the challenges of a fast-growing organisation.
You will work across all stakeholders in the organisation: from Operations and Construction to Product & Engineering, and business functions such as Finance and Legal & Compliance. By partnering closely with teams throughout the company, you help protect revenue, support scalable and compliant growth, and embed a culture in which risks and controls are understood and owned across the business.
What you will contribute
You will play a key role in further developing and embedding risk and control awareness across Fastned. Together with the Sr Risk Manager, you will help ensure that risks are identified, assessed, monitored, and addressed effectively. It is a team of two, so you will be close to everything.
Your responsibilities include:
Define, maintain, and drive Fastned's risk management framework, including policies, control measures, risk appetite principles, and the risk roadmap.
Lead fraud detection and investigation as a key operational risk domain, developing detection rules, managing alerts, and investigating suspected incidents involving customers, employees, and third parties.
Make risk tangible by translating risk exposure into measurable indicators, developing KRIs and dashboards, and monitoring alerts to identify emerging risks and prioritise follow-up.
Act as subject matter expert and trusted advisor to (senior) stakeholders, embedding risk considerations in decision-making and ways of working across the organisation.
Increase risk and control awareness throughout the business, enabling all departments to identify, assess, and own their risks and controls.
Guide and coach risk champions across the organisation, strengthening the first line and building lasting risk capability at all levels.
Define and implement risk reporting, including thematic deep dives, communicating findings clearly to audiences ranging from operational teams to the Managing and Supervisory Board.
Work cross-functionally on projects, ensuring risk and control considerations are embedded from the start.
What you bring
5+ years of experience in risk management, internal control, or a similar role.
Strong understanding of risk concepts and control frameworks, with practical experience applying them.
Experience building or shaping risk practices rather than only maintaining them. The ability to navigate an organisation where risk practices are still taking shape, with flexibility and pragmatism, is a must.
Experience with fraud risk and knowledge of fraud typologies. This is a significant part of the role, so practical exposure counts for a lot.
An understanding of what being a listed company means for risk and compliance. Having worked in a listed environment, or in a scale-up or fast-growing organisation, is a plus.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence colleagues at all levels; strong written and spoken English required, Dutch is a plus.
The confidence to challenge constructively and bring structure to complex or evolving situations, while helping teams move forward, without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
Proactive, pragmatic, curious, and result-driven; able to work independently and as part of cross-functional teams.
Strong analytical skills and comfort digging into data. Experience building data models and dashboards, or working with BI/AI tools and SQL, is a strong plus.
Acts with high integrity and confidentiality.
A relevant professional certification in risk management or a related field is a plus, as is a bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Data/Information Science, Law, or equivalent.
