Junior Backend Engineer

Your Role:

Fastned is a Tech led & data-driven product organisation pioneering in a completely new industry. We aim to accelerate the transition towards sustainable mobility by giving freedom to electric drivers. As a Junior Backend Engineer at Fastned you have a unique opportunity to join a team of engineering professionals to learn, develop your professional skills and eventually take part in accelerating the transition to sustainable mobility!  

We are a team of product managers, product designers and product engineers, crafting solutions to deliver the best charging experience.

We use Kotlin, Spring Boot (Micro Services), AWS, Kubernetes, SQL, Kafka, CI/CD and Rest API’s on our backend. We value creativity, quality, and collaboration and we love having fun along the way! Working side by side with our engineers you will get all the guidance you need to develop relevant skills and succeed in a fast paced environment! 

Your overall responsibilities include:

• Development, testing and review of reusable, maintainable and scalable code for the Fastned Revolt platform and infrastructure;

• Delivery high quality software through security practices, high performance, tests and great user experience;

• Assisting your squad to construct sprint planning to agree on technical direction and overseeing technical development from ideation to deployment;

• Assisting the team in improving development methodologies and applying best practice patterns;

• You'll be the driving force behind all back-end activities in order to help all EV-drivers have a great charging experience!

Who we are looking for:

• A recent degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or completion of an intensive program such as a Coding Bootcamp or HBO signals the right foundation. Regardless of the path taken, what's important is the readiness to dive into real-world challenges.

• Thinking like an engineer: curious, resourceful, and eager to build smart solutions is at the heart of this role. A growth mindset and drive to continuously improve coding skills are key.

• You're at the start of your career (less than 1.5 years of experience), and we believe passion and potential matter more than age.

• A solid understanding of object-oriented programming is expected. While Kotlin is the main backend language used here, problem-solving ability and logical thinking matter more than prior familiarity with specific technologies.

• Collaboration, energy, clarity, and empathy are essential qualities in this team. Working in an international, English-speaking environment where ideas are actively shared and celebrated is a key part of the experience.
